How do I review ads using the ad review center?

The ad review center lets you see and take action on placement-targeted ads that are eligible to appear on your pages. Let's walk through how to set up and use the review options.

Step 1: Choose your ad review setting

Do you want to look at ads before they appear on your pages, or are you comfortable waiting until they show up? The ad review center has two review options: run ads immediately or hold ads for 24 hours for manual review.
  • Run ads immediately leaves you open to the most potential revenue. With this setting, new ads that are placement-targeted to your site will be allowed to appear on your pages automatically.
  • Hold ads for 24 hours gives you more editorial control, since you have the opportunity to block ads even before they appear on your site. If you don't take action after 24 hours, ads will be allowed automatically.
Select the radio button for the setting you prefer, and save your changes.

Step 2: Review ads

Depending on the review setting you chose, you'll find ads awaiting review in one of two places.
  • If you chose run ads immediately, all new ads will automatically be approved. In the sidebar, select the Allowed page to see ads that may show on your pages.
  • If you've chosen manual review, ads you haven't reviewed yet will appear on the New ads page. (If it's been more than 24 hours since you reviewed ads, some might have been automatically allowed and may now appear on the Allowed page.)
Look through the ads. For each ad group, you'll see the Advertiser or Ad Network, typically a URL, along with an example ad creative. If you want to look at individual ads, click "Preview all creatives" to see all ad creatives for that ad group.
You can also search for specific ads using the "Find ads" box in the sidebar. Search based on ad text, URL, ad type, or ad network.

Step 3: Take action

Once you've made a decision, change the setting for that ad group or advertiser, in the "Allowed or blocked" column, click "Change." Then choose your preferred setting from the dropdown. (Depending on your review setting, not all options may appear.)
  • Hold for review: Ads will be held from appearing on your pages for 24 hours. After 24 hours, they'll automatically be switched to allow that ad group only.
  • Allow now: This ad group is eligible to appear on your pages. Does not impact other ad groups from the same advertiser.
  • Block now: This ad group is blocked from appearing on you pages.
  • Allow all future ad groups from this advertiser: When this advertiser targets ads to your pages, they will automatically be allowed to appear and will show up on your Allowed page.
  • Block all future ad groups from this advertiser: When this advertiser targets ads to your pages, they will automatically be blocked and will show up on your Blocked page.
If you choose to block an ad group or advertiser, you'll be required to provide feedback about why you preferred not to display the ads, which we use internally to help improve products.
Updates that you make to ads should take effect on your pages within a few hours.

Change your mind?

After you've blocked or allowed an ad group or advertiser, you can always change your mind (and your settings) later.
Ad groupsAllowed for ads you've allowed, and Blocked for ads you didn't -- then finding the ad group and updating the review settings.
Advertisers: Advertisers you've allowed and blocked are visible on your Settings page. Click "remove" or "allow" link next to the Allowed or Blocked advertiser to change their status.
Make sure to save your changes, and remember that updates to ad groups or advertisers you've acted on in the past may take up to a day to take effect on your pages.
