Lenovo's Bendable Tablet Is One Heck of a Prototype

Technology that's been "rumored" for years, is starting to take a shape—a very strange shape.

Bendable tablets and smartphones are something of a myth of consumer technology. Big companies are always talking about them and showing off demos, but they never make it to store shelves. Samsung, for instance, been promising a bendable smartphone for years and we still havent seen one. Now in a new hands-on video with one of Lenovo's latest attempts at the idea, we can see how far the tech has come, even if it's still years away from being buyable. 

Called the Folio, this tablet concept (with unfortunately no plans for consumer release...yet) is one we've heard before. When you want to do tablet-y things, you can make use of the Folio's big 7.8-inch screen. But if you need something more pocket-friendly, you can actually fold the tablet into a 5.5-inch phone.

The Folio runs on a Snapdragon 800 processor, which is a few years old, and a 1920x1440 screen—pretty good, but not great. The real stunner is some of the other things a foldable screen allows you to. In the video, a Lenovo spokesperson shows how the Folio can transform into a camera where the subject can actually see the composition before you snap the photo.

Of course, a great first step would be creating a foldable phone people could actually buy, turning myth into technological legend.
